The WGA
Oceanside Classic
Date: Weekend After Labor Day
Region C is more of a "destination" region in the WGA, and therefore the field for the Oceanside Classic is typically dominated by players from other regions who are taking a short golf trip around the July 4th holiday. The actual date of the event may fluctuate slightly from year-to-year to accomodate the best travel schedules.
As a unique twist to the WGA Tour season, scoring is based on the Modified Stableford system, using NET scores on each hole to determine points. For this reason, the event often produces some surprising results, as a high handicapper who shoots inconsistently from hole-to-hole can be rewarded for good holes much more than they are penalized for bad holes.
Tour Series Point Structure:
Champion = 200 points
Runner Up = 110 points
Third = 80 points
Fourth = 60 points
Fifth-Eighth = 50 points
